The Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance (CSIA) is pleased to announce that Nigel Loring, who joined the CSIA in November as Senior Director of Operations and Education, is now moving into the role of Managing Director, effective immediately.

This position reports directly to the Board of Directors and will be responsible for implementing the strategic goals and objectives of the organization by creating and maintaining an organizational structure to best serve the needs of all its Members.

Colin Borrow, Chair of the CSIA Board of Directors, provides insight into what led the CSIA Board to make this decision. He expressed how over the past few months, Nigel quickly cultivated a strong and positive connection with the CSIA Membership, volunteers, staff, contractors, and industry partners. As well he stated, that “As an experienced sports leader with extensive background in the development of successful not-for-profit organizations - as well as a respected member of the alpine skiing community - it became very clear that Nigel was the ideal candidate for this top position,”. Adding, “The CSIA has a bright future ahead with Nigel leading the way.” 

Nigel’s love of sports runs deep and is the main motivation behind his continued contribution to the sports industry. Throughout his career - one that has taken him from his roots in Nova Scotia, across Western Canada, the US, Switzerland, and New Zealand - Nigel has been applauded for his commitment, hard work and tireless effort in everything sport excellence from strategic planning, business administration, talent development, promotion of safe sport, and community engagement.

As a career professional dedicated to safety, education and collaboration, Nigel brings extensive experience to the role and is not only equipped but committed to leading the CSIA through its next phase of growth and innovation; an ongoing trend throughout his 30-year career. As former CEO of Gymnastics BC, Nigel launched the SafeSport Gym Education, a whole new approach to promoting and ensuring safe environments and practices in gymnastics. And, under his leadership as President & CEO of Alberta Alpine Ski Association, he spearheaded athlete development initiatives by providing high-performance training and competition opportunities, thus helping them advance as world class skiers. 

A CSIA Member since 1987, Nigel is thrilled about this new opportunity, stating, “I have always had immense respect for the CSIA, and I am honoured to be leading such a dedicated and passionate team of alpine skiers and professional Instructors. For the last 85 years, the CSIA has been a key leader in this industry across Canada, and now it is time to bring it to new heights, together. I believe wholeheartedly in fostering a culture of excellence, respect, and innovation and I am committed to not only advancing our sport, but the ski professional industry at large.”
